Lubricant for your fatty grey parts. A big thanks to lo-res for turning me on to this band who represent, to me, the perfect union of raging crusty velocity & bile and de-tuned sludge stomp.

This zip includes their s/t, demo, and a split with Iron Lung which in Brainoil　terms is superfluous 'cause the track's also on the self-titled.

While I thought Brainoil had been defunct for a while, in fact they're back around and playing a show: if I lived in Cali I would try be here.

Brutal Extractor

Dominating hardcore noise: Death Dust Extractor play brutal punk beneath a monstrous bass-loaded wall of distortion; More or less like a crustgrind band being sucked through a giant vacuum cleaner of death.

ANARCHY CHAOS DESTRUCTION

Crow are a heavy metallic crusty smashing machine; they've been at it since days of yore and have only gotten better. I'm posting their Bloody Tear release for two reasons even though it's been about the internets.

I. I like it a lot, and if I didn't post stuff I like a lot, then what would be the point of all this anyhow?

II. All the digital permutations I've seen of this have been horribly tagged; multiple tracks called Japanese Title, no track numbers etc... Anyway, this is a rip of the CD release on Mangrove, and I've tagged all the tracks with their Japanese name, transliterated name, and translated name.

In any case, Crow are sick. Download this now if you don't have it.

Brainoil / Cruevo : Split

Killer sludge split, with both hands hailing more from the punk/hc side of the spectrum. Cruevo's songs are longer, Brainoil's are shorter, both stomp like dusted Yetis.

Angry and driven metallic crust from Sweden. Really pissed off vocals, which remind me a bit of Negative approach plus crusty-metal, occasionally melodic guitars: fans of From Ashes rise, etc. might well like.

Selfish : Burning Sensation

Japanese burning spirits style crutsty hardcore from the land of the Finns. Not quite as good as their more recent release 'cause pain', this nonetheless kicks ass.

Assault : s/t 7" & Martyrdom 7"

Assault were a pretty damn good thrashy dark crust band whose two EPs I had posted previously. Here are their two 7" releases, both from the early aughts. These do not feature g.a.t.e.s. singer Negishi on vocals (he appeared on the 2nd of their two s/t eps), but I like Assault's o.g. vocalist just fine too.

I've seen the untitled 7" also referred to as the 'pain' ep, and it is the earlier release of the two.



Great band, with the just right amounts of melodic guitar and catchiness to set off their crust styling. They would have probably have had some more top notch releases if not for their bassist's fatal motorcycle accident.

Thema Eleven : Choose Your Beast

Thema Eleven are from the Czech Republic, and their sound is rooted in crust but also incorporates elements of sludge and 'post-hardcore' (neo-crust? shit...I don't know...) by which I mean that their songs on occasion featured extended instrumental sections and do not necessarily conform to standard verse-chorus-verse stuff (and if you've got some more satisfactory term sure and let me know)- elements of their sound & dynamics remind me of Lvmen, an excellent Czech band that I'm quite fond of, though Thema Eleven are more vocal-heavy.




Dark and moody stuff with a nice mix of heavy walls of sound, at times pretty instrumentation, good loud-soft dynamics & vocals which are more anguished than enraged. The tracks are punctuated with creepy spoken-word samples that help to set the tone: very bleak but occasionally beautiful stuff.

Their follow-up to this, The Great Misanthrope, is as good if not better, and they've also made a plethora of split & compilation appearances.

CHOOSE YOUR BEAST

Coaccion : Invertebrato

Brutal, kick-ass crust. Both well produced & raw in appropriate amounts with lots of velocity & rage.

Like Bumbklaat, Coaccion contains ex-members of Discordia, and the speedy, grind influenced crust they play also bears more than a passing resemblance to the 'klaat.

What can I say? The men are angry. The music's fast. It's good.

Bumbklaatt : Ciegos

Bumbklaatt are a heavy metallic crust unit from both sides of the Mexican border(not to be confused with the French hardcore band of the same name).

Good tough crust with dualing brutal & shouty vocals in English and Spanish.
