(Chuugakusei Kanoke) Junior High School Student Coffins : The Infection Which Forces Confession

Thanks go to Cool Fool for introducing me to this band, who play raw doom infused with a grimy punk attitude. The lead singer's a wild, sometimes bewigged, sometimes naked, greybeard-dyed exhibitionist, while according to the ever-truthful Japanese internets, the bassist is a lolita porn actress- all pretty solidly rock-and-roll as far as I'm concerned.

Junior High Coffins (my translation of the bands name, Chuugakusei Kanoke) play raw, catchy, bare-bones, bass-heavy, doom with a sleazy energy that suggests noise rock or punk, in spirit if not necessarily in sound. Their song titles and lyrics, entirely in Japanese, while bizarre and often filthy, are also extremely literate and imaginative, all things which Eater of Sounds generally approves of.

Update: I flubbed the translation on track 5, it should be something like "will proceed even if there is rain"; it's a set phrase that would be attached to something like a wedding invitation to indicate that it would be held whether or not there were rain.

UPDATE: Somewhat more correct and detailed info here.

Strange, and strangely cool at that. I'm not able to find any information about this band anywhere. Any pointers? Cheers, and thanks for the upload.

There's a lot of info on these guys in Japanese, but I haven't seen any at all in English...I can tell you that they're Tokyo based, a four piece, that this is their fourth release, and that the lead singer is obsessed with various Japanese pop idols and has a low opinion (shared by me) of the Tokyo fashion-punk scene.

Thanks, could you transcribe the Japanese name? I have a friend who travels to Japan often. Perhaps he can find out more for me. Either way, thanks for the upload, cheers and I miss the Conan banner.

Or, er, indeed, thanks to the mischievous imps with whom no one has any connection.

Chuugakusei kanoke.

Expect to see barbarian artwork again at some time in the future- speaking of, if you're not familiar, try searching this blog for Crom, my favorite Conan related band (not silly power metal either).

Oh, and the bands name in kanji is in the comment section of the mp3's.

This is my favorite new Japanese band, after Church of Misery, thanks to you! Crom is unbelievably great, too. Question, though, how much of Hot Sumerian Nights is actually them, and how much is sampled/manipulated? Not that their sheer awesomeness is in any way diluted by any facts. Cool blog, at any rate.

Glad you like them, I'll be posting some other releases from them in the near future.

Basically all the metal stuff is Crom themselves, though there may be a few borrowed riffs in there.

just great stuff - thank you again - you can find some info on them here with the actual Japanese tag..

Heh. The english text at last fm is actually taken from one of my posts, and the website it links to over there is for a band they did a split with rather than the band themselves.

It's nice to know people are enjoying this.

the power and worthlessness of the internet.. its a paradox :) people should be hearing this stuff whether the band consider themselves 'outsiders' or not; if the language is limited the music surely speaks for itself. thanks again for the great albums..

i'm still mesmerized you posed Steel Mammoth. Great work as always.

Petya- I've downloaded lots of good stuff you've posted, so thanks to you too. And yes, Steel Mammoth do the business.

As far as bands like this needing to be heard, I most definitely agree- introducing people to good stuff they wouldn't have heard otherwise is what music blogging is all about right?

Thank you very much for this as well! I got to this band recently through that post on Lucidmedia, but then I realized that you were probably the primal source ... :-D
